to clarify, I think that the “showing not telling” aspect is being done completely wrong and it’s been that way for a while
we are being “told” all the Major Events and they are really confusing because there’s just TOO MUCH in a flash and a lot of it remains unexplained for a while
and we are being “shown” romantic development and dialogue, which… fucking takes forever, here is a quote with my (additons)
The goal is not to drown the reader in heavy-handed adjectives (for me this fails during pretty much all of the last dream bubble sequence), but rather to allow readers to experience the author’s ideas by interpreting significant, well-chosen textual details (we’re getting this, but we’re not experiencing ideas we’re experiencing VERY dense events with TOO MUCH STUFF going on)
you’re supposed to show ideas and tell events
instead hussie shows events and tells ideas
there’s my opinion that’s why I no longer enjoy this
I still enjoy Homestuck but agree with this, this is also probably why I just kind of skim through the story because it’s not particularly fun or interesting to read. And I think that’s also where a lot of people start calling this webcomic boring imo.
FINALLY SOMEONE EXPLAINS IT. Thank you Maximumbuttitude, thank you so much.
